The Building Process

About two months ago, Matt and I purchased this beautiful home pictured beside the article. As stated in the previous post, apartment living has become cramped and no longer fits our life style. Our home is a cottage style 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 1400 square foot house, with a detached garage. It isn't anything huge, but it will be ours and for now it fits our needs.

We chose to buy instead of flip because the work and time required to flip just was not working for us right now. Both of us work full time jobs, and sometimes on the weekends. We needed a house that could work for us, and fit our style. We came across a beautiful location located near our historical downtown that gave us the opportunity for the perfect location to dining, night life, and still gave us that quiet privacy we don't get in the apartment complex. We walked the model, and fell in love instantly!

Since purchasing my design brain has been moving nonstop. Bouncing from color palettes to light fixtures to flooring. It never stops. While the excitement of designing and planning has been wonderful (my Pinterest board shows my enthusiasm), waiting has been unbearable. It seems like there is no progress, even though I am already rearranging the furniture in my head.

I think the best advice I could give anyone in the same situation we were in is to decide what fits best into your life right now. We ultimately came to the decision building was our best option because it gave me the design control, without worrying about the work and time we would need to put into a renovation. However, if you are even considering building make that one of your first meetings because there are so many steps to get the ball rolling after signing that contract. It is going to take a lot of patience to get to that finish line on someone else's timeline. Until then though I get to spend my time planning, and enjoying picking out every little detail of my new home. It also has opened so many new opportunities for Red Barn as well.
